Getting a scholarship is certainly a dream for many people, including you, right? Who wouldn't dream of it? Being able to continue your studies without having to consider the cost of education. However, did you know that not all scholarships provide full funding? There are two types of scholarships that are often offered, namely Fully Funded Scholarship and Partial Scholarship. Then, what distinguishes the two and which one is more worth-it to apply for? Let's discuss it in more depth.

Fully funded Schoalrships are scholarships that cover 100% of the costs during the study until graduation. In general, the selection of this scholarship is carried out before prospective students start the lecture process or at the beginning of the entry semester. Some of these scholarships include:

  1. Tution Fee (UKT/SPP/SPI/SKS)
  2. Living allowance
  3. Research/book/graduation expenses
  4. Training/ mentoring
  5. Transportation cost 
  6. Some scholarships also provide visa/passport fees (if studying abroad), emergency funds,a nd health isurances.
This type of scholarship is usually given by the government, international organizations, or renowned universities. Examples are LPDP scholarships, Scholarship Unggulan Kemdikbud, Pendidikan Indonesia Scholarships. If abroad, for example, there are Chevening Scholarship (UK), Fullbright Scholarship (AS), DAAD Scholarships (Jerman), MEXT Scholarships (Jepang), serta AAS Scholarships (Australia).

Advantages of Fully Funded Scholarships

  • The scholarships offer extensive networking with scholarship awardee, alumni, mentors, and scholarship funders.
  • No need to worry about tutuion fee & living allowance because everything is covered, so just focus on your studies.

Disadvantages of Fully Funded Scholarships

  • Administrative requirements are often higher
  • Scholarships applicant are numerous
  • The selection process is rigorous and competitive.

As the name implies, partial funded scholarships only cover part of the tuition fees. Therefore, the amount and duration of the scholarship can vary depending on the scholarship provider. Partially funded scholarships are available to students during the course of their studies, and students of varying semester levels can apply depending on the scholarship provider's requirements. The costs covered by partial funded scholarships usually include the following options:

  1. UKT/SPP semesterfunding without living allowance
  2. UKT funding and limited living allowance
  3. Training, mentoring, or courses
  4. 25% - 75% tution fee discount (commonly found in some private universities or institutions lokking to attract students)

Advantages of Partial Funded Scholarships

  • Greater chance of acceptance, as there are not as many competitiors as fully funded schoalrships.
  • Generally, can be combined with other sources of funding (but please check the scholarships. conditions).

Disadvantages of Partial Funded Schoalrships

  • Still have to bear other cost on their own which can certainly allow a financial burden. If there are no other souces of income
