Who wants to apply for a scholarship but doesn't feel confident because they think their CV is bad?

CV (Curriculum Vitae) is one of the most crucial documents in a scholarship application. It allows the scholarship provider to get to know your academic background, experience, and achievements in a nutshell. However, many applicants are still confused about how to compose a CV that is not too long, not too general, and still reflects their uniqueness. Here are 4 practical steps to writing a professional and appealing scholarship CV.

1. Start with Relevant Personal Information

The top section of your CV should contain clear and concise basic information, such as:

  • Full name
  • Residential address (just city and country)
  • Contact: active cell phone number and professional email
  • Link to portfolio (if any), such as LinkedIn or personal website

Tip: Avoid unprofessional emails such as gadisimut123@email.com-gunakan real name format.

2. Highlight Education and Academic Experience

As a scholarship applicant, your educational background is the main focus. Write down your education history from the last level, complete with:

  • Name of institution
  • Major and GPA (if requested)
  • Year of entry and graduation (or in progress)
  • Academic achievements or awards

Example:

University of Indonesia - Bachelor of Communication Science (2019-2023)

GPA: 3.76/4.00

  • Outstanding Student of University of Indonesia
  • Assistant Lecturer of Media Theory course

3. Showcase Experience

Scholarships are not only looking for academically smart students, but also active and impactful ones. This section can include:

  • Campus organizations
  • Committees
  • Social or volunteer activities
  • Internships or part-time jobs

Write briefly but clearly:

  • Position and organization name
  • Year of activity
  • Main responsibilities or achievements

Example:

Head of Media Division - BEM FISIP UI (2021)

  • Managed social media content namely instagram @bemfisip
  • Increased Instagram engagement by 70% in 3 months

4. Add Supporting Skill & Certification

Di bagian akhir, tuliskan keahlian atau sertifikasi yang relevan dengan beasiswa atau program studi tujuanmu. Misalnya:

  • Bahasa asing (beserta level: dasar/menengah/mahir)
  • Kemampuan teknis: desain grafis, analisis data, coding
  • Sertifikasi: TOEFL/IELTS, Coursera, dll.

Contoh:

Bahasa Inggris (IELTS 7.5)

Microsoft Excel (Advanced)

Data Analytics – Google Certification (2023)
