For many final-year students, submitting a thesis title can be a scourge in itself. It feels like playing a guessing game: “I wonder if the lecturer will agree?” In fact, it is not uncommon to have to submit several times before finally being approved. But that doesn't mean you can't just “shoot once, ACC immediately”!
If you want to save time and avoid repeated revisions when submitting your thesis title, here are some strategies you can apply!
1. Choose an Interesting Phenomenon to Research
Bringing up a hot phenomenon will make you more sensitive to your lecturers. Supervisors will tend to be more enthusiastic if you bring topics that: are being talked about, have academic or social urgency, and are in accordance with the development of science in your major. Example:
- If you are a student of Communication Department. You can try to discuss the influence of the TikTok algorithm on educational content preferences.
- Students majoring in Law. You can discuss AI policies in the context of personal data protection.
Avoid topics that are too general or already “classic” without a new perspective. But remember, keep the topic in line with your interests, so that you enjoy researching it.
2. Do Initial Research Before Submitting
Before submitting, make sure you have searched for journals or scientific references as a theoretical basis, thighs for accessible research objects, and compiled a concise background and problem formulation. The key is to read references to relevant previous research to find research gaps (empty areas that have not been studied much) and novelty (new things/innovations that distinguish from previous research).
This will show the lecturer that you are serious and ready to continue, not just “shooting for the title”.

3. Write a Clear and Focused Tittle
A good title is not just catchy, but also clearly indicates the object, approach, and scope. Avoid too long or ambiguous sentences, or go straight to the heart of the matter. Try to contain the main variables of the research. Also, don't get too technical, but still reflect your research.
An example of a good title:
“Analysis of Local Brand Communication Strategy through TikTok Live Shopping: A Study on Fashion MSMEs in South Jakarta”
4. Present with Confidence
After determining the title, you will definitely do a consultation. You can present your idea coherently, concisely, and confidently. Explain:
- Why you chose that topic
- What are the benefits of the research
- Whether there are references and supporting data
However, remain open to feedback. If there are notes from the lecturer, show that you are ready to adjust.
Submitting a thesis title and getting an ACC is not just a matter of luck but preparation, strategy, and proper communication. The more mature you are in your initial research and know how to “read” the lecturer's expectations, the greater your chances of passing on the first try. So, ready to shoot for the title?
